#732-What is Gospel?
When Jesus started to deliver the Gospel of God, he said ¡°The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent and believe in the good news (Mark 1:15). The reason that the Lord told us to believe in the Gospel is because we must repent and believe in the Gospel to be saved.
Then, what is the good news? As apostle Paul said regarding the Gospel, ¡°the Gospel of God, which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy scriptures, the Gospel concerning His Son, who was declared to be the Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness by resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, (Romans 1:1-4),¡± we can clearly see that the Gospel is with respect to Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Therefore, we would never know the Gospel of God unless we understand who Christ, the Son of God, is.
We must understand that, when Paul said Jesus was declared to be the Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness by resurrection, he was expressing the spiritual secret behind the scene. Then we can have a clear spiritual understanding regarding what the Gospel means.
The spiritual meaning of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God is as follows.
First, Jesus fulfilled three truths by His death, which are:
1) Because He took the same flesh as us and died on the Cross, He destroyed the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil (Hebrew 2:14)
2) That Jesus was revealed to us so as to remove our sin is to destroy the works of the devil (1John 3:8)
3) Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse for us (Galatians 3:13)
Second, four things that Jesus fulfilled by resurrection are:
1) Jesus died for our transgressions and was resurrected for our righteousness (Romans 4:25)
2) We made peace with God by the death of Jesus and receive salvation through His resurrection (Romans 5:10)
3) Now that we have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage we receive is sanctification; the end is eternal life (Romans 6:22)
4) Whoever believes that Jesus is Christ has been born of God, that is offspring of God (1John 5:1)
Because Paul understood all these truth clearly, He only delivered the Gospel of God. What he preached was only the Cross of Christ. He was determined not to know anything but Jesus Christ and His crucifixion (1Corinthians 2:2). Because the Cross of Christ is the Gospel of God, all the contents of the Bible provide accounts on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Resurrected Jesus also told to His disciples that the accounts by the all the prophets and psalms are regarding the death and resurrection of the Lord and that this is the Gospel.
Mark 1:15, Romans 1:1-4, Hebrews 2:14, 1Johmn 3:8, Galatians 3:13, Romans 4:25, Romans 5:10, Romans 6:22, 1John 5:1, 1Corinthians 2:2
